# Automatic Demotion Reversal

A **temporary** demotion carries an end date. A daily background job checks every applied-but-not-yet-reversed temporary demotion whose end date has passed, and reverses it automatically - no one has to remember to do it manually.

## What the reversal does

For each demotion past its end date, the job:

1. Confirms the employee's current Designation still matches the demoted position (if it doesn't - e.g. someone was moved again in the meantime - it logs an error for manual review instead of guessing).
2. Restores the employee's original Designation, recorded as a new **Internal Work History** entry closing out the demoted period.
3. Marks the Demotion Form as reversed.
4. Emails a notice to the configured report recipients - narrowed by their own Designation and Branch Limits, the same as every other IR notification (see **Weekly Notifications & Reports**).

The same underlying reversal logic is shared with the appeal path below - an **Appeal Against Outcome** that overturns a demotion reverses it immediately, the daily job just does it automatically when a temporary demotion's own end date arrives instead of waiting for an appeal.

Next: **Appeal Against Outcome**.
